OVIDE - OVIDE / LABORATORY of PHYSICAL OCEANOGRAPHY (LPO) UMR 6523 CNRS-IFREMER-IRD-UBO
The OVIDE 1 cruise was the second in a series of oceanographic surveys to establish an observatory for climatic variability of the subpolar gyre in the North Atlantic Ocean. Hydrological, geochemical and current measurements were made at one hundred stations between the Iberian Peninsula and the southern tip of Greenland. Repeating surveys along this path every two years for a 10 year period, since 2002, will enable the low frequency fluctuations of the meridional circulation cell, the heat fluxes towards Europe and tracer transport and characteristics of water masses to be determined.
